For
most couples, becoming parents is one of the biggest challenges
they will ever face.
To survive and grow as
a couple with kids you need to achieve three
things:
- To
be able to negotiate with each other – so that you can get
both your needs met.
Many couples experience more conflict than ever after they have
children and, for many, this can feel very disturbing. Learning
how to assert your needs and resolve difference is essential to
the long-term survival of your relationship.
-
To problem-solve and work as a team.
Parenthood throws up new challenges and problems on a daily (sometimes
hourly!) basis. With growing kids, nothing stays constant and
couples have to work harder than ever to ensure that their management
strategies are working. Constant review and evaluation is essential
to ensure that the relationships within the family are keeping
pace with the change.
-
To remain connected – even through the hardest of
times.
Kids have the affect
of drawing a couple’s attention away from the relationship.
Without realising it, couples can lose their connection to each
other – and so plant the seeds for relationship breakdown.
To sustain and develop your relationship, it’s really important
to stay connected – as friends, as lovers and as parents.
This
workshop is an opportunity to talk about the experience of becoming
a parent & to explore some of the issues that all couples face
when they have kids.
